RM of Fertile Valley’s story
The Rural Municipality of Fertile Valley No. 285 was incorporated as a rural municipality on December 13, 1909. It lies in the southwest part of Saskatchewan, and its office is in Conquest.
Two villages, Conquest and Macrorie, are surrounded by the RM. Several smaller communities also dot the municipality, including Anerley, Betalock, Bratton and Surbiton. Ardath and Bounty were once villages of their own; Ardath dissolved as a village on December 31, 1972, and Bounty on November 25, 1997.
The RM's eastern edge follows the South Saskatchewan River, with its southeast corner at Gardiner Dam on Lake Diefenbaker. Part of Danielson Provincial Park lies within the municipality near the dam. Coldwell Park Recreation Site, on the river's western bank off Highway 44, offers a day-use area, river access, a picnic site and 19 rustic campsites.
